Christian Character and Service

At William Clarke College, we believe education is not only about academic achievement—it is about shaping the whole person. Our commitment to Christian character and service is central to our mission of developing extraordinary learners who live with purpose, integrity and compassion.

Character Education: Forming the Whole Person

Character Education at William Clarke College is intentional, holistic and deeply embedded in the life of the College. We partner with families to nurture students as whole persons—shaping their identity, values, attitudes, motives and habits in alignment with their God-given purpose.

We focus on five principal virtues that guide our approach to character formation:

  • Compassion
  • Courage
  • Hope
  • Humility
  • Integrity

These virtues are taught explicitly and modelled implicitly through relationships and daily interactions. We believe that when students develop strong character, they flourish—not only as learners but as contributors to healthy communities and society at large.

Character Education supports:

  • The formation of caring, respectful communities
  • Safe and positive learning environments
  • Strong interpersonal relationships
  • A passion for excellence and service
  • The development of responsible, considerate citizens

All staff at the College are considered character educators. Through positive staff-student relationships, our teachers serve as exemplars and mentors, inspiring students to live out these virtues in meaningful and lasting ways.

Christian Learning and Service

As a Christ-centred community, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation from which we draw our purpose and hope. Our motto, Christ our Wisdom, reflects our desire to honour Christ in every facet of College life while welcoming students and families of all faiths.

We are guided by the Biblical call to love God and love others. This truth shapes our community and creates a safe, supportive environment where students can explore faith, ask questions, and grow in understanding.

From Preparatory to Year 12, students are given opportunities to:

  • Learn about Christ and Christian beliefs
  • Reflect on Biblical teachings
  • Engage in service to others
  • Consider a personal commitment to faith

Christian formation is a shared responsibility across the College. Staff are encouraged to deepen their own understanding through theological study, including Moore College PTC units led by our College Chaplain.

We are committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to hear and respond to the love found through faith in Jesus Christ. In doing so, we aim to cultivate hearts that are wise, humble and ready to serve.
