Diverse Learning
Supporting Students with Diverse Learning Needs
Our approach to Diverse Learning is collaborative and student-centred. We work closely with families, carers and students to understand individual needs and identify meaningful adjustments that enable equitable access to learning and participation.
When a need is identified during the enrolment process, the College initiates a planning conversation led by a Diverse Learning Teacher. This process involves:
- Consulting with the family to understand the student’s specific needs
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals or educators where appropriate
- Identifying practical adjustments to support the student’s learning and wellbeing
This shared dialogue results in the development of an Individual Plan (IP) - a tailored document outlining the adjustments and supports in place for the student. The IP is reviewed and confirmed with the family before being shared with relevant teaching staff to ensure readiness for the student’s commencement. The Diverse Learning Teacher remains the family’s primary contact for the implementation and ongoing review of the IP.
Families with questions about disability-related supports or adjustments are encouraged to contact our Enrolments Office or speak directly with the Director of Diverse Learning.
Our Commitment to Inclusion
William Clarke College’s approach is guided by the Disability Standards for Education, which outline the rights of students with disability and the responsibilities of schools. We uphold these standards by:
- Ensuring students with disability can access curriculum and participate in College life on the same basis as their peers
- Providing general and specialised support tailored to individual needs
- Creating a learning environment free from harassment, discrimination or victimisation
We are committed to fostering a culture of respect, understanding and genuine inclusion - where every student is valued and supported to thrive.
Gifted and Talented
In the Primary School, our Enrichment Program, led by our Gifted and Talented teacher, provides those students, learning at a quicker pace and at a more advanced level, with additional support and resources so that they continue making great progress in their learning. In addition, students have the ability to participate in the Da Vinci Decathlon (Year 5 and 6), Future Problem Solving, Debating and Public Speaking.
