Primary School

William Clarke College’s Primary School offers a Christ-centred learning environment where students begin their formal education with a strong sense of curiosity, identity, and purpose.

These formative years focus on building foundational literacy and numeracy skills through a structured, supportive approach that positions every child for long-term success. With a commitment to small-group learning, students benefit from both their classroom teacher and dedicated Literacy and Numeracy Specialists (LANS) who deliver targeted instruction tailored to individual needs. Our staff are trained in explicit instruction, a proven method that enhances engagement, identifies learning gaps early, and fosters meaningful teacher-student relationships. This personalised model ensures that each child is known, supported, and empowered to thrive as an extraordinary learner. In addition to our targeted Literacy and Numeracy Program, our Primary School curriculum provides specialist staff to deliver lessons in subjects such as Science and Technology, Music, PDHPE, Visual Arts and Drama.

Small Groups Explained

Literacy and numeracy are delivered via our small group approach. All other curriculum areas are taught by the child’s classroom or specialist teachers.

Students are placed in strategically formed small groups. Each group benefits from having a fully qualified teacher lead their group. This maximises student engagement and provides personalised delivery of these key learning areas to support all our students to make great progress each day. Classroom teachers regularly review individual student progress to identify areas for growth and improvement.

By adopting our small group approach led by qualified and highly trained teachers, our goal is to develop foundational skills that will support your child in their journey of becoming an extraordinary learner.

Student Support

Students who require additional support with their literacy and numeracy learning receive targeted intervention. Targeted intervention practices are implemented using effective, research-based programs to provide ‘booster’ sessions for children, with the goal of further advancing them along their individual learning journey.

Our Enrichment Program, led by our Gifted and Talented teacher, provides students who are learning at a quicker pace and at a more advanced level with additional support and resources, enabling them to continue making great progress in their learning.
